This month’s Spotlight focus is upon Showboat.tv
Showboat TV has been working with PRP since its inception back in 2015, and has provided work experience and created permanent work for a number of trainees. We have valued the quality of support that the trainees have received both at our place of work and “off the job training” at the PRP centre.
Our placement offers a variety of opportunities for the trainees from reception work and customer services, to multimedia and web design. The trainees are able to learn new skills and change roles if required in order to expand their range of skills learned during their time on placement with us.
Trainees are always treated as a member of staff and become an integral part of the team very quickly. Following the work placement phase, we can then assess whether the trainee is making an impact on our business, and several have gone on to full time employment or apprenticeships as a direct result of their efforts.

Employer comment:
John Rolls – Director:
“We have always had first class support from the staff at PRP. The selection process has been very successful, ensuring that the right trainees are given the opportunity to join our team. On the rare occasion that problems occur, a simple phone call to the course tutor will usually be enough to resolve any issues. In summary, I would recommend PRP Training to any business willing to offer young enthusiastic people an opportunity to prove their worth in an increasingly difficult workforce, and similarly I would recommend young learners consider the options made available via PRP Training”
Learner comments:
Callum:
“I feel like work based learning has helped me find a job while completing qualifications based in what I enjoy and it has also improved my confidence. I have enjoyed the course because it is completed in a relaxed, easy to work in and friendly environment.”
Harley:
“Having done work based learning before and found it both helpful and enjoying, I am excited to start my new work based learning in ICT with Showboat TV who I have been working for the past few years.”
Matthew:
“I joined Showboat TV from an unemployment scheme, and have been with them from their first day in the Llanion Studios. The early days were an exciting challenge, setting up the studios themselves, preparing the building to receive guests and performers.
When the studios were up and running, I moved onto running the Livestream Broadcasts, learning how to schedule the programs, and how to get them to play on time.
The company moved to an on-demand streaming platform, and I was given the task of building and maintaining the website, learning the skills required on the task.
On the whole I’ve been well motivated and challenged by the work, the skills I’ve learned have given me a better understanding of the work and the technology employed, and the team I work within.”
Assessor comments:
Laura Brockway – Vocational Lead:
“We here in the Vocational Department of PRP Training have worked with Showboat TV for years and have had many learners over that time on work placement with them, a good percentage of which have led to exciting apprenticeship opportunities.
Showboat TV are an extremely supportive and patient placement provider, always offering excellent opportunities in reward for hard work and dedication. We have seen learners build in confidence and develop their media and social skills due to the excellent team there, always taking the time to encourage and guide them.
John is always on hand to discuss areas for improvement and to collaborate on and accommodate plans to help our learners to develop their employability and personal skills. Every learner that has been there has had the chance to try all aspects of the business and has been given every opportunity to gain employment.
We are very thankful to all at Showboat TV.”
Natasha Goff – Vocational Tutor:
“Antoine Barber has recently progressed from his engagement course to his level 1 course early due to excellent attendance and participation. Antoine is a confident learner who is interested in film directing, so as you can imagine at Showboat TV he is thriving. Antoine is always positive and sets a great atmosphere in the classroom. I’m sure he does this with all other staff.
For the reasons above is why we moved Antoine onto his level 1 early, which he is doing brilliantly at already! Well done Antoine!”
Laura Barrett – Multi-route Assessor / Business Development Lead:
“Showboat TV provide a highly rewarding, inclusive work environment for those aspiring to develop their professional skills, whilst gaining experience within the media industry.
Matthew, Callum and Harley are all making excellent progress with their work-based learning programmes in Management and IT, which has all been helped through the exceptional support provided by John. Well done to all!”
